Oh! The Places You'll Go!

May, wonderful May... It really was!  This past month, we have seen a LOT of firsts!  Where to begin...
Well, for starters, it was the first Mother's day - which we already discussed, but it was also the first time since we had Bailey that Christian was gone - like, really gone.  He has done some light, continental traveling since she came home, but this month he did his first international trip.  He left for 2 weeks to explore Greece and Romania...  oh, and work :)
He had an amazing time and we were so wishing that Bailey was old enough to travel that far and that long!  We cannot WAIT to take her around this big, big world - But for now, Daddy's stories and pics will have to do.  On that topic, Daddy has to be the worst traveler... he takes NO pictures.  After being away for over 2 weeks and visiting the ancient ruins of Greece and some amazing sites in Eastern Europe, he brought home 5 pictures and one weird video of some Romanian guy that started randomly dancing in some club while dressed as a police officer???  I was a little disappointed but at least he remembered "the" gift.
A while back we started a tradition that every trip Christian takes, he has to bring something back - not just some tacky trinket, but something cool, something meaningful.  This time he brought back a Romanian Easter Egg.  These things put any Paas kit to shame.  The people take the egg, empty the contents of it through a small hole, and hand paint the most intricate designs you have ever seen!  Super cool!  So, the egg now sits aside some other select pieces we have collected:  a rock from Brighton Beach in England, wooden carved animals from Eastern Africa and a jade carved elephant from India to name a few.
I love having a little culture in this house!
Once home, Christian was sure that he had missed something GRAND from Bailey - but apparently she decided to save all her tricks for Daddy's return.  She now has 2 teeth - which are too cute!  She just laughs and those two little pearly beans stick out... so sweet!
A few days ago, Bailey sat up holding herself for the first time!  Now, I can't stop sitting her on the floor, tempting her with toys, just to see her sit.  She looks like a little Buddha - maybe she could go on the shelf ;)
But her recent trick is completely random, yet so awesome.  As a parent, you cannot wait for the day that your child reaches for you - and you can't wait until they reach for things.  Well, Bailey is a reacher!  It is so neat to see her interact with the world around her.  She is so interested and so stimulated by things - but the best has to be the dogs.  Christian and I were wondering if she even knew they existed!  This week, while sitting on the porch, they walked by and she just reached out - grabbing them, and petting them.  She was laughing hysterically too - every time she touched them, she would laugh!  I think she was mesmerized by their texture and they didn't mind the attention either...
She is just growing up so fast!  I cannot believe that just 5 months ago we were sitting in a hospital hoping she was ours, and here she is.
With all of the travel stories and her new tricks, we are inspired more than ever to get her out there.  We cannot wait to see the places that she will go and the crazy things she will reach for and even touch and giggle a bit... In the words of Dr. Seuss:

Oh!  The places you will go - you'll be on your way up!  You'll be seeing great sights!
You'll join the high flyers who soar to high heights!
You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best.  Wherever you go, you will top all the rest...
Today is your day!  Your mountain is waiting.  So, get on your way!
